The Temple of Juno Sospita

Archaeological excavations have revealed at least three different structures in different historical periods. The first temple was a small structure in tufa while in the late sixth century BC they built a great temple of ‘Tuscan’ type of which there are some structures remaining. All pottery found including the ornaments and votive items are in the British Museum in London.

From the time of the Republican temple, however, only 2/3 of the foundations remain due to collapse of the terrace and the theft of the travertine marble used to the medieval castle.
