The Women of Giulianello

Popular songs have been handed down and survive thanks to the group of Giulianello’s Women, which modulate a Julianese song dating back to around the year 1000.

The composition has been handed down from generation to generation among the peasants arriving intact until today. A testimony so precious that the Center Pompidou in Paris keeps a record.

All the songs are polyphonic, with main voices alternating and a chorus responding. The themes are not only liturgical, but largely tell of an archaic peasant society and the exploitation of labor.
