Via Francigena del Sud in Norma

The Via Francigena was the ancient route followed by pilgrims from northern Europe to arrive in Rome at the tomb of Saint Peter and then continue along the Via Francigena del Sud towards the Holy Land.
This second section of the walk has several alternative routes since after the fall of the Roman Empire the area of the Appian Way was largely not passable as it was located below the level of the Pontine marsh.
All the connection with the south and Naples was then along the Via Latina or Casilina and by way of the foothills in the Lepini Mountains with several paths, one of which crossed the village of Norma. It is a wonderful opportunity to walk in the Lepini Mountains stepping between history and a nature that presents an incredible biodiversity atlas.
