Capranica Prenestrina is the highest town of Lazio, on the Guadagnolo mountain that dominates Palestrina and Rome. The village was founded in the Capranica castle, whose tower and other parts are still visible. The civic center is the austere Palazzo Barberini.
The very impressive Sanctuary of Mentorella built by the Emperor Constantine is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin. It was one of the most beloved by Pope John Paul II who came here often to pray and meditate.
