Guide of Fiumicino

Although it was for a time an important port of Rome, the town was abandoned (there were only a few huts around the Tower of Pius V) and the current city of Fiumicino is due to a nineteenth-century French architect Giuseppe Valadier (the urban architect of the Pincio in Rome).

The city is located on the north side of the Tiber River delta and has an important port channel that is used by a fleet of fishing vessels and recreational craft. The channel has a drawbridge to allow the passage of boats.

The Fiumicino area is home to the eponymous airport of Rome, also known as Leonardo Da Vinci, the most important Italian airport.
