Gorga is a mountain village known among the inhabitants of the neighbouring countryside as the town ‘where people seek refuge’. In the Middle Ages the people of the valley came here to find shelter from malaria and built the present village.
Recently, during the Second World War, many families found refuge from the marauding armies.
The village belonged to the Papal State and was under the jurisdiction of the Pamphilj family.
It is worth a visit to the famous Astronomical Observatory of Gorga where researchers will be able to introduce you to the wonders of the cosmos.
