Guide of Castel Sant’Elia

Castel Sant’Elia arose between two important consular roads, the Cassia and Flaminia, in the charming and mysterious valley Suppentonia part of the ancient region of Falisca about 40km north of Rome.

The famous “Pagus”, villages with characteristic cave homes connected by paths along the valleys bear witness to the Etruscan presence.

Castel Sant’Elia is recognized as a place of worship and is known as ‘the town of the 15 churches’, largely dedicated to Our Lady. Here there was a meeting between the Pope and the Queen of the Lombards, Teodolinda, which occurred in the Cave of San Leonardo, a church today.
