Guide of Saracinesco

Saracinesco is a small mountain village east of Rome at an altitude of 900 meters on the chain of the Ruffi Mountains, below which the Licenze and Aniene rivers join. It is surrounded by beautiful and unspoilt natural landscape.

The name comes from the numerous raids by the Saracens in 876 that devastated much of that area. Probably a group of invaders, perhaps tired of the wars, took refuge on the heights and gave birth to the country from which you have a clear view to the sea.

Around 1200 a castle was built of which little remains. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the Orsini. In the village there is an air “of the past”, perhaps due to the presence of strange clocks.
