Guide of Stimigliano

Stimigliano was developed around a Roman villa, the ‘Massa Septimina’, belonging to the Settimia families, on a hill near the Tiber.

It is mentioned for the first time in a document of 1249 in the register of the Abbey of Farfa. In the fourteenth century it rebelled against papal authority and for this suffered destruction of its walls and the houses of the rebels.

In 1368 it was granted by Pope Urban V to the Orsini family, and in 1641 entered into the possessions of the Apostolic Camera.
