Guide of Tarano

The first documentary evidence of Tarano is from 952 of the Abbey of Farfa who protected it until the twelfth century when it passed directly under the Holy See. On the border with Umbria, for a time it was ruled by the town of Narni.

From the fifteenth century it became the fiefdom of various families and passed from the Savelli to the Orsini and then return undered the Apostolic Camera of the Holy See.

The origin of its name is uncertain and there is a strange resemblance to “Taranis”, the Celtic god of lightning and storms, linked to the identification of sacred groves.
