The history of the Chamber Orchestra of Frosinone is truly original due to how it was formed – by three old schoolmates in 2014 who went to a ‘Convivium’ at Fiuggi dedicated to a piano and double bass concert.
The three friends are: Annarita Alviani, Secretary of the Questor of Frosinone, Maurizio Turriziani, master of double bass and Maurizio Agamennone, ethnomusicologist among the founders of the Taranta Festival in Salento.
The Prefect, Emilia Zarrilli, a woman of great sensitivity and with a great love for Ciociaria of which she knows every village, captured this particular spirit of the evening and launched her support to make everything happen in a short time.
It seemed unusual that a city with such a prestigious conservatory and with such an animated cultural life had not had its own orchestra!
The first meetings kicked off and Annarita Alviani was elected as chairman of the group, the soul and glue of the group of friends since they were children. What happened next seems to be a fairy tale, it is like the egg of Columbus – as if everyone was waiting for this orchestra.
Frosinone hosts one of the best Italian conservatories, yet it seemed that orchestras could only be from big cities or regions.
The Frosinone Chamber Orchestra today is so much appreciated by the city that it is revolutionizing the very way of living in the city.
Maurizio Turriziani immediately engaged in the realization of this “dream” bringing together many talents that Ciociaria has given to music including among many, Loreto Gismondi, Alessandro Minci, Marco Attura.
The first performance by the Chamber Orchestra was the “Christmas Concert 2014” for the Frosinone Police Department with 30 players directed by Master Augusto Vismara.
Not having a home, the concerts were held at the Conference Room of the Palazzina Benessere of the Questura.
Perhaps also for the spirit with which the musicians live their musical experience both in performance and socially, every show of theirs is a kind of recital where the performers recount the pieces and the composer in a way that the spectator feels the true spirit of Music and can perceive the deepest shades.
The friendship and exuberance among the musicians are perceived together with their joy of playing together.
Legendary are the jokes on the ‘pegs’ that hold the sheets during outdoor performances, those that Toscanini could not bear because he said that outdoor people only play bowls.
The presence of the main performer of the double bass makes the Frosinone Chamber Orchestra even more singular in choosing the repertoire to be performed.
If Maurizio Turriziani with his cumbersome instrument on one hand has forced everyone to choose programs that also play an important role for his instrument, on the other he has created an original image of the Orchestra.
When they perform, you can listen to unique music and unique arrangements designed for the massive double bass to play a role bringing unusual repertoires to the audience.
From the day of its first concert, the orchestra has accompanied all the official events of the city and of the whole Ciociaria, organized the first summer festival in Frosinone and courses for children who want to experience the excitement of playing in a real orchestra.
Maybe one of the most impressive events was the greeting at the old Matusa football stadium and the inauguration of the new Matusa Park where the picture of the doublebass on the lawn went viral on the social network.
With this orchestra once again Frosinone proves itself to be a culturally vibrant city of the future, ready to drive and accompany young people into the new tourist identity of the whole Ciociaria.
