Park of Monsters covers an area of 3 hectares. It is also known as the Sacred Wood or Villa of Wonders, a monumental complex, with special grotesque basalt sculptures depicting mythological animals, gods and monsters.

The park was built by Prince Pier Francesco Orsini (called Vicino Orsini) and commissioned by the architect Pirro Ligorio, and was dedicated to his wife Giulia Farnese.
