This peak is known since the Volsci and the Romans built a first castle, ‘Marx sorana’ mentioned by Tito Livio, parts of which are located in the basement of the current one. During the Middle Ages it was restored by Frederick II and Charles of Anjou. The medieval castle was destroyed in 1229 and rebuilt in 1520 by Evangelista Carrara of Bergamo. The stronghold, a rectangular plan, consists of six towers with walls.

Inside there is a large courtyard with a cistern, the keep lookout and a small votive chapel dedicated to Saints Casto and Cassio, with an ancient fresco.

It was part of a complex of fortifications sighting encountered going up to the castle along a picturesque trail where you can admire the rocky sanctuary of the god Silvanus, from the second century BC, and the polygonal walls.
