The church was designed in 1936 by Eng. Riccardo Morandi, and completed in 1937. Its lines follow the Colleferro castle. The church is made of reinforced concrete and inside is a crucifix made of bronze cast of Donatello.
The apse of the church is dominated by a large mosaic representing the patron saint Santa Barbara and on which are represented the industrial plants and factories of Colleferro.
