The catacombs date from the fourth and fifth centuries AD and are located near the current cemetery. Consisting of the main galleries and a number of secondary branches they are all dug into the tuff. There are more than a thousand tombs and, in addition to simple niches, you can find arcosolia (tomb recessed in arch) and “formae” pavementali (tombs in form of pavement).
