The core of the castle dates from the thirteenth century and originally it had defensive purposes bordered on the north by an artificial moat and was surrounded by walls. The inner square to the fortress was used for the allocation of the troops.

The fort is an imposing rectangular building with four large corner towers. The different materials that were used denote all the transformations of the building over the centuries. In fact, with the arrival of firearms buttresses were built to reinforce the footing around the perimeter of the walls.

Later the castle was turned into a palace by opening windows and the re-arrangement of the interior.
