Mount Leuci is recognizable by its unusual conical shape and at its base was the important monastery of St. Nicholas of Pico, now disappeared, directly on the “journey”, the pilgrims route from Rome to San Michele al Gargano and then, on to the Holy land. Also because Pope Victor III, formerly Abbot of Monte Cassino with the name Desiderio, walked that path after being crowned pope in Rome.
