The rural church of Santa Barbara is a small place of worship, much loved and built on the site where, according to tradition, the Saint was martyred by her father. The Saint is depicted in a beautiful statue placed inside the church.
She was born in Kocaeli (Turkey) in 273, where she was called Barbara (foreign) and then moved to the rustic villa of Scandriglia with her father Dioscorus, collaborator of the emperor Maximian Herculean. Barbara became a Christian, and for this she was beheaded with a sword by her father who was struck by lightning and burned. This is why Santa Barbara is the patron saint of the Fire Department. The body of Santa Barbara body was preserved until the ninth century and then the church moved it to the Rieti Cathedral.
Every December 4 this place becomes the destination of a real pilgrimage accompanied by loud cheers.
