Taishan is the symbol of national spirit, known as China’s “national mountain”. Mount Tai is the eastern one of the five Sacred Mountains of China and in 1987 was listed as a world natural and cultural heritage in the UNESCO list.

The large Inscription Commemorating Mount Tai, written on a cliff by Emperor Xuanzong is a major attraction. It commemorated the accomplishment of a sacrifice ceremony he held on Mount Tai in 726. All the characters are coloured gold in the official script, thus distinguishing this inscription from most of the inscriptions on Mount Tai.
