The 11th century tower was built in 1077 and is the nucleus of Gerano around which was formed the current town. The tower had defensive functions and control of the road to the monastery of Subiaco. It was a symbol of the power of the family of Ottaviani and Abbot John V. Abbot John was an important figure in the political and military life of the Abbey of Subiaco and organized control of the territory.

The building was modified in the eighteenth century and has a sober style with stucco and papal coat of arms.
