In a mountainous area, about 600 meters above sea level, Percile is set amidst the lakes and streams of the Monti Lucretili park.

Its name probably derives from the Roman family of Porcia and a marble stele was found of a 7 year old girl who summons others to the place.

The town was formed around a country parish and the estate passed to the Abbey of Farfa and then to the families of the Orsini and Borghese.
