Vallinfreda is a very small town east of Rome, along the mountains around the Aniene valley. Its name derives from Vallis Frigida, probably due to the cold winters of the area.

It was a fief of the Borghese family until the abolition of feudalism. The history of Vallinfreda has been intertwined from the history of brigands who took refuge in many towns of the Aniene Valley.
