The Bell Tower of Santa Maria Assunta of Sgurgola is located at some distance from the church on a hill that overlooks the square.
Its strange position is due to the fact that the original small church of Santa Maria was located on this hill.
When the population grew and there was need to build a new church the old one was demolished but its bell tower still stands on the skyline.
