The imposing Prefettura palace closes on one side the Plebiscito square, the political and administrative heart of Viterbo. It is located adjacent to the Palazzo dei Priori but its history is older because this was the first medieval seat of the Priors palace.
At the end of the fifteenth century it then became the seat of the governor of the patrimony of St Peter until Francesco della Rovere decided to build and expand the nearby palace.
The current appearance dates back to the latest works during the eighteenth century when it took on a classic appearance and became the Apostolic Palace, seat of the delegates.
Today the building has four floors with regular openings and a large entrance door and houses the Prefecture.
