Ventotene. The Fishpond

The fishpond of Ventotene comprises two tanks dug into the tuff to accommodate marine species sheltering from the waves of the sea. They have been designed in order to exploit sea currents and mix fresh water with salt water.

A series of gates allow the correct exchange of water with the marine environment.

A third tank was used to house the fish away when the fishpond had to be cleaned.
