Valentano. Farnese fortress

Valentano. Farnese fortress

The castle of Valentano was built by Pier Luigi Farnese in 1500 on a manor of the fourteenth century and is located on the highest point of the town.

The facade appears austere and is enriched with a unique brick porch.

Inside you can admire works by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger.

A special "holy stairs" which dates back to the first half of the eighteenth century when it was obtained in 1700s from the grand staircase of Cardinal Alessandro Farnese, who was born in Valentano in 1520.

The octagonal tower offers a splendid view of Upper Tuscia and Lower Tuscany. Today the castle is home to the museum.
