Music and young people for a different aperitif at the Colleferro Market: this is the summary of the inauguration of Barrio - Tapas and Music the evening before the feast of the patron saint, Santa Barbara.
The Colleferro market is restless, driven by a youthful, well-traveled community who wants it to resemble the markets of the large cities of the north, and by an important tradition that sees it as a hub for independent farmers from all the surrounding countryside.
Personally, I love the fact that you can buy vegetables from real farmers, or chicory and mixed salad from those who pick them in the fields, but I must admit that this happens mostly on Tuesdays (the weekly market day), and sometimes on Fridays and Saturdays.
Over the past few months, the market has slowly begun to transform, with afternoon openings, some musical performances, and the opportunity to eat directly from the vendors. The creation of a central space dedicated to people's rest and a heating system have completed the architectural redevelopment; now the social aspect is missing.
And here's the initiative by Luca Proia and his partner Stefano, who decided to bet on a refreshment stand open in the afternoon and evening.
Wandering among the tables on the opening day, one could sense a growing desire among people to see the Piazza Italia and Piazza Mazzini area come back to life. Everyone hopes that new people will bring life not only to the market but to the neighborhood.
Even those my age who spent entire afternoons under the Maffucci arcades can't wait to see a repopulated square.

We at Donna Vittori Borgo Agricolo are there with our wines, which were a huge hit with the public, including the parish priest at the opening.
At Barrio, you can taste the Cesanese Lettera in Anfora, the Sangiovese Clea, and the Rosato Love is a Choice. We look forward to seeing you in Colleferro and, of course, in our winery in Paliano.
