Casalattico. The 'Written Stone'

The Written Stone is a rock placed along the route of an ancient Roman road, which connected Atina with Casalattico, which  tells the story of the road.

In the first century AD, a freedman named Gaius Pomponio Tigrano would have paid 450,000 sesterzi out of his pocket to realise this road that is now no longer visible.

Every so often, though, in the countryside you can come across stones in which you recognize the wheel ruts of wagons.
