Sonnino. Festival of Zazzicchia (sausage)

4-5 August: How could there not be a party dedicated to one of Sonnino’s traditional dishes?

The festival of Zazzicchia is the celebration of a typical product of Sonnino and of its surrounding area (do not forget also the sausage of Monte San Biagio).

It is still handcrafted by local butchers according to the Sonninese tradition. In some butcher shops you can see the artisans at work while they prepare the sausages.

The festival of Zazzicchia (sausage) takes place in the historic center of the town and will also be accompanied by historical re-enactments of scenes of daily life during the period of banditry.

Sonnino has its own particular identity linked to the brigands and to the fact of being a border area between the Papal State and the Bourbon Kingdom.

Something to definitely visit is the beautiful and evocative museum of the Borderlands of the Brigante di Sonnino which will be opened for the occasion.

Tastings of local products and dishes include artisan salami, buffalo mozzarella from the nearby Valle dell'Amaseno, itrana olive oil, typical dishes such as bread soup and crepes.

To complete the party there will be live music and folk performances.
