Ciciliano. Way of Saint Benedict

The fortress of Ciciliano is one of the control points founded by the abbey of Subiaco to counter the expansionist aims of the diocese of Tivoli and is crossed by the path of Saint Benedict.

The journey traces the story of the saint Saint Benedict born in Norcia and lived for many years in Subiaco. Here together with her twin sister Saint Catherine she had founded several monasteries and that of the sacred speco is one of the Italian wonders.

After a long stay in Subiaco, St. Benedict went south and founded the famous monastery of Montecassino where he remained until the end of his days.

The length of the path is over 300 km and also crosses the municipality of Ciciliano.
