Reality surpasses fantasy, said the famous Sicilian writer Leonardo Sciascia, and every time something strange happens, this phrase always comes to mind.
So it happened that the hilarious comedy "A Mayor Suddenly!", written and directed by Federico Mantova, confirmed for me the unfathomable beauty of reality.
It was a beautiful evening at the small theater in Alvito, a true gem for theatergoers, with a show that will be remembered both for its story and the talent of its actors.
"There is a law that allows those running for office in municipalities with fewer than 1,000 inhabitants to have a month's paid leave to campaign," Federico Mantova told me. "I had read the story of a small town in Molise that had as many as 18 lists that had presented themselves for the elections so that each candidate could take advantage of this law."
And so, the curtain rises: two friends who work as state employees and are running to lead their town. They were actually counting on the incumbent mayor's victory, but the Regional Administrative Court (TAR) refused to admit his list to the elections, and the two friends' list won the elections.
I won't say any more, because the show has some truly hilarious moments that should be enjoyed by spectators.
The protagonist Slavatore Cavaliere of clear Neapolitan origins, adds a touch of class to the entire show, while the cadence of the lower Ciociaria area provides some very funny moments.
The packed theater laughed with the actors, and the mayor of Alvito, Luciana Martini thanked Federico and all the artists who continue to keep the theater alive and make it the center of cultural life for the entire Comino Valley.
