The Ruggito d’Attore theater award festival has returned to the small, jewel-like theater in the town of Alvito. The Frosinone ‘Comedians Theater Company’ opened the program with the show "Argil and the Cosa Papyrus."
For those unfamiliar, the Cosa is the river that flows through Frosinone city. Once a bountiful river, it is now just a trickle. In fact, the river rises near Campo Catino, and today its pure waters are intercepted and bottled by a well-known brand of bottled water.
The entire story, written by Luciano d’Arpino, tells the story of a man who finds himself catapulted from prehistoric times to present-day in Frosinone thanks to the fact that the inclined elevator is actually a time machine.
The main actors are the prehistoric man and a local television anchor-woman who has a news program but is in a hurry to return to her "beloved" in Valmontone. The journalist's irony, played by Maria Grazia Crescenti, elicited laughter from the audience, who appreciated her light-hearted style.
But the real star was Maurizio Trasolini, with his primitive stage persona. The light-heartedness with which he approached the character made him so believable that we all laughed at the differences between the way of understanding life in the past and the silly tribulations of the present. A true stage presence that surprised even those of us who came to the theater with doubts about history.
Reuniting with the other members of the jury– Debora Bovenga, Federico Mantova, Enrico Quadrozzi e Rosanna Viglietta - after two years was a small celebration; each of us continued to cultivate a passion for theater as spectators or as artistic directors of theaters and companies. Jury president Debora Bovenga took the stage to inaugurate the festival together with Federico Mantova, bringing greetings from Mayor Luciana Martini di Alvito.
Last year, we organized a small theater festival called "Teatro al Solstizio" at our Donna Vittori Borgo Agricolo farmhouse, featuring two FITA companies I'd met in the provinces of Frosinone and Rome.
