The fifth edition of the "Cesanese Festival" has started following the philosophy of the Trapizzino’s motto - "Because you only drink well with your heart!", transforming Trastevere into a riot of Roman red. The event took place on 11 December at the iconic Trapizzino, in Piazza Trilussa in the heart of Rome. A unique opportunity to celebrate the majestic and noble Roman vine, the Cesanese, as ancient as the Eternal City itself and loved by Popes, Emperors, Hosts and Poets. And we were there, as Donna Vittori, of course to party, but it was a nice excuse also to bring a few bottles of our first harvest of Lettera - Cesanese del Piglio DOCG 2022, dreaming of one day being among the greatest. Thanks for welcoming us! We met many friends, among the producers and lovers of this divine nectar: those are people who, every day, believe in the Cesanese wine and decide to invest their lives. I often like to remember that I decided to choose this job after knowing their stories and the love that binds them to our wonderful territory. Trapizzino: temple of good Lazio wine With 100 wine labels, all from the Lazio region, the Trapizzino winery in Rome has become a point of reference for the quality wine of the region, celebrating the continually growing excellence of Lazio. Exceptionally open on Mondays, Trapizzino hosted a special evening together with Stefano Callegari, Paul Pansera, Luca Boccoli and Francesco Spaggiari, curators of the selection of the restaurant's best Lazio wines, but also with the 16 producers from Cesanese (and a few surprise friends). A party that saw producers and enthusiasts talk about, toast and savor the wines offered by the Rome winery and by the producers themselves. Intimate tasting with the producers The event was a convivial and sincere experience, where love for the Cesanese area was the underlying theme of an informal and friendly evening. The winemakers mixed with the public at the winery to chat, exchange opinions and uncork many bottles of Cesanese, creating a unique atmosphere. A tasting experience that allowed wine lovers to get closer to the different nuances of this prized Roman nectar. The 16 excellent producers present for the occasion were: Abbia Nòva, Alberto Giacobbe, Biodinamica, Carlo Noro, Cantine Riccardi Reale, Casale della Ioria, Coletti Conti, Damiano Ciolli, Falcone, Formiconi, L'avventura, La Visciola, Marco Antonelli , Maria Ernesta Berucci, Proietti, Rinelli and Terre Antiche. Cesanese: symbol of the Lazio region with three official names Cesanese is the symbol of the Lazio region and boasts three Official Designations: the DOCG Cesanese del Piglio, the DOC Cesanese di Olevano Romano and the DOC Cesanese di Affile. The evening was the perfect opportunity to discover the ancient roots and different nuances of this unique wine. For many “outsider” from Ciociaria and Rome, Cesanese del Piglio remains a mystery, a wine whose history is intertwined with that of Italian grapes. To testify to the antiquity of the vine and to tell a piece of its history there is the name Cesanese itself, which derives from the Latin cesae: places with cut trees. Its cultivation dates back to Etruscan times, highlighting the longevity of this red grape. Although Lazio is often associated with white Frascati, Cesanese gained prestige with the awarding of the DOCG designation in 2008 whose DOCG zone includes the municipalities of Piglio, Acuto, Serrone, Paliano and Anagni. Many wineries now offer, upon reservation, the unique opportunity to visit the premises and vineyards to illustrate the production of wine from the vineyard to the bottle and then taste a few glasses. An excellent opportunity to spend days outdoors and have unique and instructive experiences! So, a special thank you to Trapizzino for the welcome, the wonderful party organized and for sharing the love for our territory with us, producers and dreamers! It was a pleasure having our wine welcomed and we'll see you next year! *Thanks to Pasquale Pace and Trapizzino for the photos
