Colle San Magno. Gustav Line

From Colle San Magno, following the Way of St. Benedict, you also cover the same road that the German troops did, who had their encampment in La Forma, to reach the front of Cassino.

Along this route, remaining high up the mountains, you can still see the remains of the fortifications of the Gustav Line near Villa Santa Lucia and Piedimonte San Germano.

The Gustav line had been set up by the Germans to resist the advance of the Allies.

The line crossed Italy from the Adriatic Sea to the Tyrrhenian Sea with trenches, barbed wire and fortifications. In this area the Gustav Line continued across  the plains near Aquino, where the ditches that were armed with turrets of tanks are still visible.
