The Villaggio delle Macine ("Village of the Millstones") of Albano Laziale are the remains of a lake settlement that dates back to the Bronze Age, or about 4,000 years ago.
The village was built on stilts over an area of about 2 hectares and even today some piles are visible that rise out of the water and that were the bases of the huts.
We are in the middle bronze age and the settlements still include few huts that did not need to protect themselves from aggressors.
The population had settled near water courses, which could also favour agriculture, and in areas where they could hunt in the woods around the lake.
