The early church of St. Erasmus in Formia was from the Constantinian era and was built on a pagan cemetery.
It was buried saint Erasmus bishop of Antioch and christian patron of Formia.
It was devastated by the Turks in 1530 and during the Second World War.
It has three aisles and an anonymous painting of the eighteenth century, a funerary slab of the dukes of Marzano 1698 and the eighteenth-century altar contains a wooden statue of the saint.
In the basement are the remains of a Roman necropolis of I-IV century, the tomb of the fourth-century martyr.
It can be recognise the early fifth century cathedral, the crypt of the seventh century, the Benedictine workshops of the eleventh century and a sepulchre room of the eighteenth century.
