Soriano nel Cimino. Mount Cimino

Mount Cimino, at 1053 meters high, is the highest in the province of Viterbo and the summit overlooking the town of Soriano nel Cimino.

On its summit is a centuries-old beech forest of about 57 hectares. For the ancient Romans the "Cimina wilderness" was a gloomy place, sacred and impassable.

In the area were found the remains of ancient temples dedicated to Jupiter Cimino.

Thanks to the conquest of the summit, the Romans were able to see all the Etruscan settlements in the Upper Tiber Valley and win the battle against them with Quintus Fabius Maximus Rullianus consul.
