Albano Laziale. The Vatican Farms

In the territory of Albano Laziale there are the famous Vatican Farms where all the food is produced every day for the Pope's table.

According to the Lateran Pacts of 1928, this territory belongs to the Holy See and was commissioned by Pope Pius IX.

For some years it has also been open to the public who can buy some of the products.

The cultivation and breeding of animals follow natural methods without using chemical fertilizers while animals, such as chickens, cows, ostriches, donkeys, rabbits and hens, are kept in open fields.

The very fertile territory allows the cultivation of many vegetables, fruits and vegetables such as carrots, potatoes, beetroot, broccoli, tomatoes etc.

There are 55 families who live inside the farm and who also run the product processing centres. Fresh milk is transformed into yoghurt, cheese and high quality dairy products.

The Vatican Farms also produce a good extra virgin olive oil, made with 4 different types of olives, as well as white and red wine and honey.

You can buy all these products in the shop open to the public at certain times of the day.
