Cellino San Marco. Villa Valletta

Cellino San Marco. Villa Valletta

[metaslider id="100239"]
Villa Valletta takes its name from the family who lived there in Cellino San Marco.

Probably dates back to the early twentieth century and was built in liberty or floral style.

The villa is famous for a statue of a young woman placed in front of the entrance and made by Ricciotti.

The artist wanted to represent the harvest by placing a large basket with bunches and grape leaves at the feet of the female figure.

A local story tells that the statue was inspired by a beautiful girl from San Pietro in Vernotico who had been sold by her father to the owner of the villa in exchange for grain.
