You reach Foca gate of Segni through a path on a side of the mountain that today has become an archaeological route of the city and follows the whole path of the imposing cyclopean walls.
Known as "Porta deglio sticcato" (Gate of the fence) in the local dialect, that is to say.
There are many hypotheses about its name which is perhaps connected to the Byzantine emperor Foca who reigned for 8 years between 602 and 610 AD.
It seems that the name has been attributed to a local tribune.
It is a 'sceo' type gate, like the famous gates of Troy, i.e. it has a slanted opening which has its right side more forward and at a higher level than the left one.
In this way the enemy approached the door from an oblique direction, so with a strike of minor force, would expose the side of the body not protected by the shield.
