A Segni without vineyards becomes the wine capital for a day

After a very welcoming invitation, we participated in the wine tasting and the meeting with the producers organized by the AIS section - Italian Sommelier Association of Segni.

I must admit that these events are generally organized in areas with a wine-growing vocation, so we went with a little perplexity which, however, melted like snow in the sun since our arrival at the Hotel La Pace in Segni, the location of the event.

The perfect day, the ideal temperature, the welcoming garden and a banquet already set up immediately made us happy, but the real surprise was the warmth of the welcome and the kindness of all the AIS sommeliers of the Castelli Romani and Ciociaria, as well as those who they had finished the course which had taken place at La Pace.

And if we thought there would be no turnout, we had to think again. From the beginning, the event saw the participation of numerous visitors from a vast area who asked interesting questions and were all eager to get to know the Cesanese area.

In fact, it was not an event for drinking but for tasting and visitors were eager to taste more types of wine and discover more about the techniques used in the vineyard and cellar.

We were present as Donna Vittori presenting our Una Domenica Italiana gift packs with wheat experiences and with our reds Clea (pure Sangiovese) and Lettera (pure Cesanese del Piglio DOCG).

I must admit that I am very proud of the compliments received for the wine (thanks to our winemaker) but also for the Za'tar which, as we say to smile, is so good that it 'creates addiction'.

We must thank the sommelier organizers of the AIS dei Castelli Romani with the delegate Fabrizio Gulini (on whom Segni depends) who is also the head of AIS Lazio teaching and in particular the kindness of Rinaldo Colabucci, Marco Bordon, Fabio Fiorletta and Dario Carnesecchi.

A real joy was meeting Francesco Centi with his large family, son of my dear friend Vincenzo and who is the portrait of his father (also thanks to the light of his eyes), and the mayor Silvano Moffa to whom perhaps we owe this cultural awakening of the city. Among other things, I had read just that morning about the funding from the Ministry of Culture to return Segni to its rightful role as an open-air museum.

Prosit! and see you next time. I think we will return to Segni soon!
