Cesanese and Jazz at the Arciliuto with the music of Jeff Ballard

I'm not sure if I love jazz or Cesanese more. I definitely encountered jazz first, and when I was little, Cesanese was known for being a sparkling, rather sweet wine.

My grandfather used to buy it in San Quirico to drink with his friends on Sundays at the bocce court, alongside the white wine he made from grapes grown in Velletri. To drink quality wines, we had a few cases of wine shipped in every year from Collio, which I still believe to be the best area in Italy for white wines.

My personal discovery of Cesanese occurred recently, but it was so dazzling that it inspired us to open a winery.

I had left jazz behind due to my husband's illness, when his musician grandson recently joined the Arciliuto and began to reintroduce us to the world of jazz.

The Kevin Hays Trio played on Tuesday, featuring Thomas Morgan on double bass and, most importantly, his idol Jeff Ballard on drums: the perfect evening to bring our Cesanese and organize a small tasting of Maria Vittori's wines.

Cesanese and Jazz at the Arciliuto

The Arciliuto was a legendary venue for my generation and has now returned to being a point of reference for young people. Just steps from Piazza Navona, in a little-known square, it preserves the charm of tradition with the intoxicating power of live music.

Being two meters (some even one meter) from the musicians means being able to feel all the vibrations that resonate through our bodies and the well-being that slowly flows through our body and spirit.

Maria's Cesanese was the perfect setting to further appreciate the music and the virtuosity of the three musicians, each of them exceptionally talented.

Dear Arciliuto, we'll be back, and who knows what surprises we can still experience together.
