Miracle at Bauco (Boville Ernica), better than the one on 34th Street

Long live amateur theater! All the greats started out as amateurs in some way!

The two Genovesi brothers wrote another small theatrical masterpiece, Miracle at Bauco, which already from the text let us foresee the magic that surprised the spectators in the hall at the small theater in Veroli.

The Gl Mannecut company was overwhelming, so much so that often from the audience you could hear loud comments from people who would have liked to take part in the show.

It can be said that the audience of Veroli was another of the protagonists of the evening, not limiting themselves to having a passive role. And what is more gratifying for a theater company?

On the other hand, Veroli is close to Bauco (now Boville Ernica) and often the text referred to the importance and role of the dialect in our Ciociara identity. The theme involved us all a bit (even though I must admit that I didn't understand all the words because some are different from the dialect of Paliano) and people couldn't hide their emotions.

The premiere of Miracolo a Bauco was held in the small theater of Veroli with two performances in succession due to the great demand for tickets, a sign that it has now become part of people's lives. It always makes me feel strange to enter the theater passing through the ASL door, but then this is part of the beauty of the experience: you pass a corridor, you enter the magic of the foyer, and you are welcomed by Enrico Quadrozzi thanks to whom Veroli has become a protagonist of the cultural life of Ciociaria.

Miracolo a Bauco is the third show I have seen written by the two brothers Lorenzo and Selene Genovesi, who continue their father's tradition of writing texts and producing shows with their amateur theater company Gl Mannecut.

I have witnessed their growth and I am happy, I feel like I am part of the company too. This text does not have the pauses of the previous ones, it flows like a river in flood and makes 1 hour and 40 minutes of pure emotion pass (for those lucky enough to find a ticket).

The two brothers opened and closed the show: Selene introduced the audience to the meaning of the word 'miracle', which must be understood in an emotional way, while Lorenzo closed the scene with thanks by bringing all the protagonists of the company up on stage, even those who work behind the scenes

The show tells the emotional dynamics of 3 generations, that of the more traditional grandparents, that of the parents busy with their jobs and that of the children who find themselves growing up alone becoming more fragile. With the passing of the generations, we go from the strength of the family that lived in a room to the weakness of a family where each member has his own room.

We go from the daily use of dialect to its use only in the family, to feel more united by a strong feeling while at work we prefer to pretend not to know the dialect.

"The use of dialect and Italian can have many levels of interpretation. For some years they were in opposition but if we don’t mend this gap, we can’t become better people. For this reason, we chose to give the show a title composed of one word in Italian and one in dialect: Bauco is the dialect name of Boville Ernica where we come from. Then we were inspired by the poetry of the film Miracle in Milan by Vittorio de Sica and by the fact that its screenwriter had stayed in Boville Ernica. Who knows, maybe his energy spread through the alleys of the city and contaminated us a little”, Lorenzo Genovesi tells me, always happy with the passion he shares with Selene. At the end of the show I went to visit them and congratulate them. Needless to say, the talent of Pierino Capogna and Katia Capogna in the part of the grandparents who received numerous open-scene performances, of Andrea Venditti and Monia Zeppieri in the parents and Veronica Rotondo (only 14 years old) and Francesca Capogna. Not to mention Giuseppe Rotondo who played the part of a man who believes himself to be an animal.

Veronica's story is special because her passion led her parents to attend the theater and today she acts on stage with her father.

I recommend following Gl Mannecut to find out where the next performances will be, while those who want to enjoy them in the open air in an agricultural context can come to our Donna Vittori farmhouse on June 20. We like theater so much that we launched the Teatro al Solstizio event which includes the show, agricultural pasta and then an after-theater where the audience meets the protagonists and we can reflect together on our relationship with the miracles of life.
