Tuesday evening has become an important day at Donna Vittori – Borgo Agricolo where the master sommelier Andrea Pistoia guides people to discover the fantastic world of wine.
We are in a production area of the only red DOCG grape in Lazio, Cesanese del Piglio, and we will all have to know the ABC of wine in order to be proud of our territory, promote it and also to welcome in the right way the numerous tourists that arrive.
Andrea Pistoia is a master sommelier but also a maitre and has made his strong point his ability to welcome people in the right way and organize events. By our choice we decided to present only the wines of Lazio with a focus on Cesanese, all Cesanese included among the denominations Cesanese del Piglio DOCG, Cesanese di Olevano DOC and Cesanese di Affile DOC.
The people who arrived were having their first encounter with wine and had no idea how to go from drinking to tasting in order to understand the nuances of the different styles of the grapes but also of the producers.
For this reason, the first lesson focused on white wine and the first visual and olfactory analyses, and for this meeting 3 wines produced near us were chosen: a white wine by Bellone grapes from Cori produced by Ilori, a wine by Cacchione from Tenuta di Bacco in Nettuno and a Passerina wine produced naturally by Alberto Giacobbe from Paliano.
The peculiarity was that we had two wines tasted from the same grape variety (Bellone and Cacchione have the same origin) but with profoundly different terroirs. Cori is a land of volcanic origin on the slopes of the Lepini Mountains, while Nettuno is by the sea on gravelly soils.
The amazement of the people who put their noses in the glass for the first time was exciting, as were their expressions.
The evening obviously ended with a plate of Donna Vittori pasta!
See you next time, rosé wines.
