Located atop a hill with a wonderful view towards the sea, are the ruins of ancient Tusculum, a Latin, Roman and medieval city, razed in 1191 for harbouring the militias of Frederick Barbarossa.
In the archaeological site remains have been found dating back to the Iron Age, which indicate already at this stage the likely existence of a town of probably Etruscan origin.
From the Roman era can be recognized: the Acropolis, the Forum (first century) with the Roman Theatre and Amphitheatre (II century).
Outside the city is the "Street of Tombs" where there are graves according to the Roman custom of burying the dead alongside cobbled streets.
On the hillside there are abundant remains of a medieval area in which a Christian church was discovered.
