Serrone. Mount Scalambra

Mount Scalambra, on Ernici, is 1420 meters high and is located between the valley of the Sacco and the Aniene Valley.

In ancient times it was known as  "Monte Carbone" by sailors who used it as a point of orientation because it is visible and recognizable from out at sea.

The name of "Carbone" (coal) stemmed from the fact that the peak of the mountain appeared black.

The southern exposure of the Serrone territory of the mountain has a wide variety of flora and is especially known for the cultivation of the famous Cesanese grapes of Piglio.

The mountain is used by many sports such as mountain bikers, trekking and as a launch site for paragliding and hang gliding.
